THE LECTURE

Since late 2001, Afghanistan has been passing through a political and social transition of very considerable complexity. In this lecture, Professor William Maley, author of Rescuing Afghanistan (2006) and a regular visitor to Afghanistan, examines the strengths and weaknesses of the transition process so far, highlights the need for durable international commitments to sustain it, and offers some suggestions as to how Australian contributions might best be used.
