A Seat at the Table? Australia's bid for the UN Security Council
In 2008, then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd announced that Australia would seek a non-permanent seat for teh 2013-14 term on the UN Security Council, the most powerful global security governance institution in the world. In October of this year, UN member states will elect new Council members in a secret ballot. And though the Gillard government is touting the benefits of the bid, the opposition and members of Australian public are still asking questions.
