APCD Visiting Fellows Program


The Visiting Fellows Program at the Asia-Pacific College of Diplomacy supports local and international scholars wishing to undertake research in diplomacy at ANU, in accordance with the College's aim to promote research, dialogue and education in transnational diplomacy, negotiation and conflict management.

The Program aims to have 5-6 visiting scholars at the College per year.

Types of Fellowship


Visiting Fellows (full grant)

These types of fellowship are for between two weeks and three months. The fellowship covers accommodation nearby or at ANU campus, air fares and daily per diem, (please note that the latter is not intended as a salary replacement.)

Visiting Fellows (partial grant)

These types of fellowships are for between two weeks and six months and can cover accommodation nearby or at ANU campus, or air fares, or both.

Visiting Fellows (without grant)

This type of Fellow undertakes a research project at the College without any grant but with full fellowship privileges and for a negotiated period (see below).

Visiting Fellow Privileges

Visiting Fellows receive access to the library, computer, health and sporting facilities at ANU, and administrative and communication support from the College. In addition, Visiting Fellows are encouraged to make contact and consult with other scholars and researchers at ANU, and to participate in the general academic community activities at ANU.

Until the new premises for the APCD are complete (estimated 2007), Visiting Fellows will be offered office space (including computer equipment) at an ANU location within walking distance of the College.

Obligations of Visiting Fellows

Visiting Fellows may be asked to contribute the College's public lecture/seminar series and/or participate in the Master of Diplomacy teaching program. In addition, the College may request publications derived from the research undertaken under the auspices of the College be included in its Research (link). Any such arrangements will be discussed with the applicant when the Visiting Fellow position is offered.

Visiting Fellows are responsible for making their own travel arrangements and providing their own travel documentation. Letters of support from the College for visa purposes can be provided upon request.

Application Procedure

Applicants should complete an application form, and attach a copy of their resume, referee reports and proposed research project (the latter should be a maximum 800 words).

Applications close 31 May and 31 November of each year. Successful applicants should commence their Fellowship within six months of notification of success and at a time arranged in consultation with the College.
